Starting with my last review on the Lowepro SlingShot 200 AW camera backpack, I have inaugurated a new rating system for my photo equipment reviews.

Ratings will sit on a scale from 1.0 to 10.0. I won’t grade anything lower than 1.0. If I ever come across something so bad and vile as to merit a 1.0 - trust me - that thing might as well deserve a 0 (zero). However, I don’t anticipate ever having to review something below a 5.0 because I am currently reviewing my own equipment and I always research it thoroughly before I buy anything.

One thing that needs to be mentioned is how I come up with this score.

First, please bear in mind that all impressions about the piece of equipment that I’m reviewing are strictly my own, possibly biased and probably not always objective. If you ever happen to disagree, please feel free to post a comment.

Second, I decided to “grade in reverse”. Most reviews are graded with average scores from different features of a particular product. I am simply giving the item an initial 10.0/10.0 points from which I will subtract points for various things that I don’t like. Once again, all this process might not seem very objective to you but then again, which review is perfectly un-biased?

Having (hopefully) cleared up the scoring system, here are the ranges for each grading tier:

9.0 – 10.0 Outstanding

8.0 – 8.9 Awesome

7.0 – 7.9 Great

6.0 – 6.9 Good

5.0 – 5.9 Passable

4.0 – 4.9 Mediocre

3.0 – 3.9 Pretty Bad

2.0 – 2.9 Awful

1.0 – 1.9 Horrible
