Millennium Park - Part 1
I still haven’t finished my previous series and here I am starting yet another series. I just passed through these photos I took in September (when it was still damn hot outside) so I thought I would share some of them. On that particular outing I visited Chicago’s Millennium Park. The weird thing is that I heard of this park from a friend who had been in Chicago for less than two months, and I had lived here for a year. That’s what happens when you don’t get around…
So here I was all excited, with my Canon 300D, the Canon 10-22mm and the Canon 50mm f/1.4. I also lugged the heavy Manfrotto tripod in the hopes of shooting a sunset panorama of the city. I ended up walking a crapload that evening, from Millennium Park along Lakeshore Drive, all the way to the Planetarium. And then back.
These majestic buildings are located along the length of Michigan Avenue. I took the shot with the Canon 10-22mm and they all seem to fall over each other from the extreme perspective.

This is the big bubble which is one of the park’s main attractions. I call it “The Bean”. In fact this might be the nickname it goes by. I don’t know and I don’t care. Look it up. It looks like a damn shiny bean to me. Nonetheless, it’s a magnificent sculpture. I just wished there were no people around. Wishful thinking, as vast hordes of sightseers and tourists invaded the area, touching the shiny surface of the Bean with their greasy hands. Looking closely the mirror-like surface was far from impeccable.

There’s an open air theater in the park and the huge metal awning has a very interesting architecture. High tech and all. The red seats were empty this day, but the party was simply taking place across the street in an extension of the park, where hundreds of people had gathered to listen to a live jazz performance. The police kept a wary eye on them even if nothing bad was likely to happen.

Next up I explored the park’s vegetation, close up. It was well manicured and discouraged one from stepping on the grass.
