Illinois Pictures by Canonet QL17 G-III #2
Part two of my series of photos taken with my Canonet QL17 G-III rangefinder camera continues with a blue door and window set in the side of a blue house. I like the contrast between the bright, saturated blue and the muted reds and browns of the masonry.

Here’s the typical American back alley, with enough room for one vehicle to pass, and trashcans on the side.

I experimented with a slow shutter speed (1/30 second) and the experiment worked. The cool thing about a film camera is that you need to make every shot count. You need to think it through before clicking the shutter. Any mistakes will be revealed only after the film is developed. And if you don’t get too many chances to shoot, you may end up developing that film after 3 months, just like me.

This is the typical evening rush traffic on Fullerton street in Chicago. It’s one of those shots I took while driving. It came out better than I expected, even though the window wasn’t very clean. I have to admit - I added a slight coppery tint in Photoshop to enhance the atmosphere just the way I imagined it. You might also notice that the Audi is tilted to a side. That’s how the whole lane is in that point.

Here’s another shot taken from the car, while moving on the freeway. No, I didn’t have to look through the viewfinder and considering that, the photo turned out pretty good. There is maybe a bit too much dashboard in the picture but I think it gives a sense of where the camera was located.

This last photo was taken in a local forest preserve. This was probably the last snow of the year. Spring is just around the corner.
