Ilford on Canon F-1 Manual 35mm SLR - Part 1
Some have suggested that I post some different photos for a change and I fully agree. The flea market series is long and a break was needed. I still have 3 more episodes to post but for now I’m thinking that a respite should be welcome.
It so happens that for this new series I have a bunch of photos taken on the same day as the flea market except that they were taken with the Canon F-1 Manual 35mm SLR that I borrowed for a few days and, for the first time, on Ilford HP5 400 ASA film. Yep, I’d long dreamed of shooting black and white film and I finally got this chance after buying (on the same day) a bunch of expired films for a high discount. Considering that I don’t make any money from film and also that B&W film is rather expensive these days, I believe the only way for an amateur such as I is to buy these discounted films. Even then, developing is a bitch. It cost me 3 times as much as the film itself. Go figure.
Luckily the Ilford was a 36 frame film so I got to shoot everything I wanted that day and the next. Now the thing is, the Ilford being a 400ASA film, for the most part I had to use high shutter speeds and a closed aperture since I shot everything in daylight.
For this episode I have a bunch of photos taken in a little forest preserve. Most of the frames on this film were underexposed and that might well be due to the film being so old but that was just fine because Photoshop helped me recover all the relevant details. I particularly love the specific film grain that only, well… film, can exhibit.
