Forest Preserve – Part 2
I wanted to say a few words about the new Canon 30D but I didn’t get the chance in my last post. It’s a great camera. I feel professional using it, even if I’m not. It’s heavier than the Digital Rebel (300D) but not much. The biggest problem is that I’m still not used to the different controls. I was used to the Rebel and I knew where the controls were by touch. Even though the 30D has faster controls, I need more time before I can operate the controls blindly. The SLR viewfinder is also slightly brighter than the one on my old camera.
The 30D has a very important feature: spot metering. I didn’t use it much yet because so far the evaluative metering mode has been adequate. There’s a lot of processing and algorithms behind this mode and the camera handles a variety of different lighting situations with excellent results. However, owing to the fact that it was so cloudy outside, I increased the exposure about 2/3 of a stop.
It’s funny what one comes across when walking through the woods. This sign was quite amusing. “Osama Rules”. Indeed. I guess the only thing he rules are the sewers.

This is a more general shot of the forest with it’s winding bike track.

I found this cap in a tree. I guess the poor owner had been eaten by the wolves. Or maybe the werewolves. They left his hat stuck in that tree as a warning to future trespassers. Next thing you know, there’ll be a 30D hanging there ![]()

The grass has all dried up. Autumn has passed. Winter is here. Nature is dead. Aw what the hell… spring is around the corner ![]()

Someone had placed a few metal grilles over the wet and muddy grass. Maybe it was the werewolves.
