eBay Remotes Quirks
The weirdest thing just happened. Well, I’d been warned that these eBay remotes might act up but as far as I knew, they only misbehaved with a couple of strobes, namely Canon’s 430EX and I believe the 580 (not sure about that). Tonight I had a photo session in mind and I shot a bunch of stuff on black background. I used all 3 flashes/receivers (1x Sigma 500DG Super, 2x Vivitar 283). Here’s what happened.
For one thing, I had an idea of placing one of the Vivitars inside the paper shredder and firing it through the paper slot. Well, the idea itself misfired but whenever I put the shredder in reverse (with the flash inside the container), meaning that it was in operation, the flash would fire on its own. Wow. I guess there was something to do with the powerful electromagnetic interference from the electric motor or something like that.
For another, all 3 flashes started firing on their own at one point. I have no idea why. Maybe because 2 of them were very close to each other, almost touching? Thing is, they kept firing and firing and firing… As soon as one of them recharged, it would fire. Fricking weird. Eventually, I removed the transmitter from the 30D and right about the same time, those crazy strobes stopped firing.
Well, what the hell did I expect? These aren’t exactly Pocket Wizards. For the money, though, they’re worth their weight in dimes.

I can see that you have managed to get the Cactus triggers to work with Vivitar 283’s. It is encouraging news for me while I have a well-functioning Vivitar 283 and I am thinking of getting a set of wireless triggers too.
I have seen people reporting problems trying to operate with Cactus triggers and the Vivitar flash. Perhaps you could write something of your experiences so far?
